Brand new Information just in from our Nampa Discount Queen Emily:
Recently two women were BANNED from Albertsons (12th and Greenhurst location in Nampa) for LIFE due to repeated "peelie theft". They were caught peeling coupons from products and then not purchasing the items.
I had no idea this was a shady thing to do - generally I consider coupons to be free and for the taking. So just be informed that Albertsons is cracking down on Peelie theft - and if you do not plan on buying the item the peelie is attached to, then leave it there!!!
Thanks for the heads up Emily!!!

Wow, that's hard core :). Is that even legal?
In my opinion, most peelies are just another way for manufacturers to market. Some times they say "save on THIS item" or something similar (meaning, not to be used on any other item, but most the time the peelies are valid on lots of different items. So they are meant to be peeled and used used elswhere.
This is shady territory though. i guess you could say that the peelies is part of the product it's stuck to and therefore, you must buy the products to take the peelie.
I don’t know... :)
I have a hard time believing that anyone would think it okay to take a peelie off a box. You bet it is theft! The intent is to get you to BUY the item. If they wanted to provide you with free coupons, they would use the tear off pads. I am glad they were disciplined. I shop at that store, and people like that give us couponers a bad name.
I agree, they could be stealing them and selling them on ebay and WE could be the ones buying them. NOT COOL!!! Glad to hear they are cracking down!
I'm glad to hear that they're cracking down on it too. It is totally understandable!
What about peelies that are for the purchase of an item other than that which it's attached too?
I am SO GLAD to see this come across your site. I have called it product rape!!! If it was right...why do we look around to see if anyone is looking? I did it once and felt terrible about it. You betcha it gives couponers a bad name. Most say "SAVE .50 NOW." That means at the moment of purchase!!!
Ha! This is amazing!! #1 I can't believe they got banned for life, seems drastic, but who am I to make that call. #2 I think it's definitely stealing. The item has a coupon to promote and help ALBERTSONS sell an item not use the coupon to go across the street to Walmart and use the coupon. I'm with Albertsons, it's theft.
Same thing goes with the coupon pads, I have heard of people taking an entire pad! I am sure they sold them on ebay. I have been a merchandiser for years and used to work for the coupon dispensing machines. Just because they are there does not mean you can take as many as you want to save for later. How easily people will compromise themselves to save a few bucks!
I think I'll have to agree, you guys make a good point :). I personally would never take a bunch of peelies unless I planned on using them at the store at the time, but I think manufacturers probably don't care who uses them, as long as they get used and the product get promoted.
That is too awesome! I admit that I have taken a few peelies to use later. But I have a feeling that these 2 ladies must be repeat offenders if Albies took such a drastic measure. Thank you, Albertsons!
I have been frustrated in the past because I could tell there was a peelie on a product and it wasnt there. Some times stores will take them off too though. This is good information, hope you don't mind if we pass it on to our readers here in Spokane :)
I think Peelies are perks for those spending the money on the product.
So even if the peelie is for something else, it isn't yours to take unless you buy what's attached.
I'm glad Albertsons acknowledged it.
A bit ridiculous it had to get that far.
